Stasi prison 1956-1989

The exhibition is divided into eight topical sections. They document the entire history of Bautzen II as a special prison of the Ministry of State Security. Topics include arrest and incarceration, daily life in prison, prison personnel, the seclusion of the prison from the public and the release of the political prisoners in 1989-90. In addition to numerous exhibits, there are also recordings and films of show trials and accounts by period contemporaries describing imprisonment. The central room of the exhibition is best understood in conjunction with visits to the study rooms distributed throughout the building.
