Bautzen Special Camp 1945-1956
Selected biographies are used to illustrate the history of the Soviet special camp in Bautzen I. Numerous original objects from the period of imprisonment are on display to supplement the biographies. A model of the camp illustrates its scale and available space. The few surviving contemporary photos and a brief film sequence are also shown. Adjacent to the exhibition, visitors may view a walk-in reconstruction of a cell recreated according to the accounts of former prisoners.
Three computer workstations are available for viewing filmed interviews of period contemporaries about specific topics as well as a graphical display of the statistics of the special camp in Bautzen. The structure of the exhibition reflects the course of the prison terms served by the inmates at Bautzen. As most of them were imprisoned under both Soviet and German administration, the exhibition includes the period from 1945 to 1956.
