Overview
The exhibition of the Bautzen Memorial is located in the historic building of the Bautzen court jail, which was used from 1956 to 1989 by the East German Ministry of State Security as a special prison. A 23-minute introductory film familiarises the visitor with the history of the two Bautzen prisons. Visitors may move through the building freely as they please. Information panels with texts and photos explain the most important locations within the 'Stasi prison' and present selected prison biographies of the victims of the Ministry of State Security. The exhibition also includes topical study rooms at several locations. In some of these visitors can listen to recordings or watch films about the specific topic. Finally, the exhibition includes four rooms presenting each of the individual periods of persecution and a chronology of the prisons.
